The true cause of the financial crisis: Revealed!

Start with this:

On Friday, Environment Minister Barry Penner warned water levels for rivers in the Southern Interior and south coast are at record low levels, because of a combination of below-average snow this winter, and the dry, hot spring and summer weather. (CBC News)

Seems innocuous, right? Just a friendly warning from our friend the Minister of Environment about unseasonable warmth and the resulting water shortage. But wait, add that to this:

Chilliwack MLA Barry Penner said that times are tight, “government revenues have been evaporating,” forcing the government to make tough decisions about what it can and cannot continue to fund. (Chilliwack Progress)

And it all becomes clear! Namely, that government revenue is made of water!

Clearly, Barry Penner isn’t afraid to tell the world that this heat wave is having a devastating effect on our province’s finances, literally drying them up! Thanks for the heads up, Environment Minister.  I, for one, will do my best to conserve water during this financial crisis. Every litre I save may help buy a book for our libraries or pay for surgery for a sick child.

Hmmm… You’d think Colin Hansen would be on top of this one. Oh well, you can always count on Barry Penner to pick up the slack.
