Alright people, we need to talk…

So it seems like the latest fun thing to do in the wacky world of BC politics is to play the old ‘Who’ll Replace El Gordo!’ game for some reason (seriously, the next election is years away and El Gordo has already announced he’s running, so this discussion won’t be relevant for about seven years… but I digress). Hey, look! A new poll that includes Barry Penner as an option! This is going to be great!

Rounding out the bottom of the list were Transportation Minister Shirley Bond, Housing and Social Development Minister Rich Coleman, Environment Minister Barry Penner and Health Minister Kevin Falcon. – The Tyee

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold it. That’s gotta be a typo!

Five cabinet ministers emerged with the worst ratings. Black (minus 14), Kevin Falcon (-17), Barry Penner (-20), Rich Coleman (-21) and bringing up the rear, Shirley Bond (-26).  – The Vancouver Sun

Hmmm… actual numbers… surely that (-) is supposed to be a (+), right? I mean…

Chilliwack-Hope MLA Barry Penner may not have his eye on the premier’s seat in 2013, and he probably shouldn’t if a recent poll holds any weight.

(…)

As for Penner, just 12 per cent said he would make a good premier while 32 per cent said he would make a bad one, and 56 per cent were not sure. - Chilliwack Times

Well… I guess if the Chilliwack Times is reporting it, it must be true. Alright, then, British Columbia. We need to talk.

Why on earth do you not want Barry Penner to be the new premier? It can’t be the lack of experience or competence. Why, he’s so hyper-competent that could pretty much do all of the other Minister’s jobs himself!

Finance? Yup. Education? Been there! Health? Done that. Transportation? Oh, yeah. Energy? You’d better believe it! I could go on and on and on…

He’s even got a few federal posts covered, trying his hand at foreign affairs and national security. Barry Penner could pretty much do it all! He’s the natural choice for Premier. Why, even his own oversized novelty cheques think so!

I just don’t get why Barry Penner isn’t the first person anyone would choose to run this province! Unless, of course, the people surveyed misheard the question and thought they were asked about John Les. Yeah, that must be it. Nothing else makes sense.
