So, by now I assume you’ve heard of the awesome new rec room that Environment Ministry folks have to play around in.
Welcome to the “work-free zone” — the government’s new “wellness centre” for civil servants. It also features a plush video-game lounge complete with sofa, easy chairs and a 50-inch plasma TV with surround sound and Nintendo Wii console. A note pinned to the wall indicates Dance Revolution 2 is the current favourite. – The Province
Sounds like a great place to relax after a hard work in the shadow of The Minister. What’s the problem here?
Environment Minister Barry Penner admits the expense looks bad. “I understand the optics, but the choice was to have the space used or not used,” he said. – The Province
Ah, yes. Standard definition Wii on a 50″ HDTV . Of course that would look quite bad. Might I suggest a Xbox or a PS3, perhaps? Sure, it may cost a little more, but you’re already in it for 138 grand, what’s an extra couple hundred to be able to play a little Halo or GTA in HD when you take a break from saving the turtles, bears, and salmon?
“I am asking my staff to look to see if there’s something else it can be used for,” he added, insisting that he didn’t know about the “work-free zone” before it was approved… – The Province
See, if you would have just asked Barry Penner for advice before you started, he could have told you that you need to use that TV for something else.
Problem Solved.
