Barry Penner could have been one of the Olympic torch-bearers, but he decided against it. He’d much rather stand on the sidelines and clap respectfully. Barry Penner isn’t one to hog the center of attention.

I’d like to apologize to all the loyal Barry Penner followers for getting this post up so late. In my defense, I am sick. I’ve come down with a little thing called Olympic fever. I spent all day yesterday coughing, hacking, and watching CTV; it was terrible. However, it seems that I am not alone. Barry Penner may not be going to any Olympic events, but that doesn’t mean he’s not celebrating Canada’s games. He’s throwing his own party, and everyone is invited:

“This is another way to celebrate the 2010 Winter Games,” said Environment Minister Barry Penner. “We welcome everyone to drop by SFU or BCIT to check out the cabins.”

The cabins will highlight BC Parks, and also have information about Climate Action policies, Water Stewardship, and Environmental Protection initiatives with brochures, posters, children’s games, and videos.

What better way to celebrate the international spirit of sporting brotherhood and competition than by going out to BCIT and checking out a cabin! Environmental Protection initiatives are the new gold medals, after all!

Hey everyone! It’s time for the Olympics! I hope you got your tickets a while back, they aren’t exactly easy to come by, you know. Barry Penner may be going, but only under very specific circumstances:

Chilliwack-Hope MLA Barry Penner did not rule out attending the Olympics for free. But he said that if he does so, “It will be in my work capacity representing Chilliwack-Hope and the province of British Columbia.”

So, we’ll be seeing Barry Penner in the Olympic crowds then? It doesn’t matter if he’s catching some two-man luge or cross-country skiing, Barry Penner always represents Chilliwack-Hope. That’s why he’s the Barry Penner.

What do you mean you can’t see him? Of course he’s in the picture! He’s the third from the left. No, the other left. Look, he’s standing right there on the rock. That’s right, the BIG rock. Barry Penner’s the tallest one there! No, no, that’s a tree…

It was during his short stint  as an outdoor short-order cook that Barry Penner discovered his true passion: shaking hands.  His life would never be the same. And neither would the meat pavilion.
