With his new job, Barry Penner’s environment has changed from mostly green to mostly red and black. Luckily, his trusty blue suit doesn’t blend in with anything, and Barry Penner remains easy to spot in the crowd.

Barry Penner seems to be fitting nicely into his new role as the Minister of Aboriginal R&R (Reconstitution and Rejuvenation? I really need to write it down…). He’s got himself a podium, a microphone, and a guy with a stick, so he’s feeling right at home. Sure, he wanted to hold this event hundreds of miles into The Environment away from all civilisation at the edge of a pristine lake… but still, baby steps.

So Barry Penner has passed The Environment of to someone else for the time being and has moved on to greener pastures: Aboriginal Rest and Relaxation or something like that. Clearly, it’s important, whatever is is. Waaaay more important than the entirety of The Environment. And he’s totally ready for it, too! Just look at him up there, Relating and Reconciling with all those Aboriginal people (He’s easy to find, he’s the one that sticks out like a sore thumb). You know that Barry Penner is going to be the best Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation-ist ever.

Well, once someone tells him exactly what his new job is.

The Environment is saved! At least, Gordon Campbell clearly thinks so. Why else would he pull Barry Penner, Mr. The Environment Himself, off of that all important portfolio after all these years?

Now, it seems Barry Penner has to turn his laser-like focus and incredible getting-things-done-edness ability to being the Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation.  He’s going to Relate to Aboriginals and Reconcile things all over the place… whatever that means. I’m sure he’ll figure it out soon enough.  It can’t be that hard.

Don’t worry, he’s still a fan of The Environment. It’s just grown up now and no longer needs Barry Penner’s master guidance.
