So here it is… Barry Penner’s last act as MLA Barry Penner: Sending in his official resignation with the help of his Petite Penner Protege.

It is telling that nobody has yet stepped up to wave the Liberal banner in Chilliwack-Hope.  Those are some The Environment-sized shoes to fill.

Thanks for everything, Barry. It’s been a lot of fun.

Okay, so Barry Penner wants to spend more time with his new daughter. Fine. I’ve certainly heard of worse reasons to quit a job. But the thing is… he doesn’t have to quit his job just to spend time with his kid. As he shows right there, a baby is the perfect accessory for today’s busy MLA, both classy and practical! He can just tuck little Fintry there under his arm, and go about his business as usual, MLA-ing all over the place. And knowing how much of a trend-setter Barry Penner is, pretty soon everyone in Victoria will be showing up for work with their offspring along for the ride.

Last week, Barry Penner and his wife Daris LaPointe welcomed a new member to the family: Fintry Katherine Penner. Of course, Barry Penner is completely on top of things, and took the opportunity to introduce the infant to the high-paced world of the Barry Penner photo op. It’s never too soon to smile for the camera!

And if anyone doubted Barry Penner’s continued commitment to The Environment, take a look at this:

Their newborn’s name, Fintry, is a nod to a provincial park in the Okanagan that Penner visited while he was environment minister.

Well, it could be worse, I guess. She could be named Wrinkly Face Penner.

Everywhere Barry Penner goes, he is accosted by people for impromptu high-fives.  It’s just something people feel compelled to do when they see him.

Don’t worry, she’ll get it. Barry Penner never leaves anyone hanging.

Back in his day, Barry Penner whittled his own school bus out of a block of wood. Not because he had to, though. He just thought it would be fun.

Some places erroneously report that Barry Penner used to be a park ranger. This is incorrect. In fact, Barry Penner never gave up his park rangering ways.  To this day, he still finds the time to go out in The Environment and  lecture campers both young and old on the proper way to cook hotdogs.

Yes, culinary tips fall under the purview of BC park rangers.

Only his quick thinking and pile of free “I ♥ The Environment” T-shirts saved Barry Penner from being torn apart by the hordes of children.

Nobody will notice that most of the seats on the stage are empty, thanks to Barry Penner. All he has to do is talk for three times as long as scheduled, and he’s set!

Barry Penner (or Mr P. as the kids call him) is always one of the most popular teachers. Everybody loves his “Caring for The Environment” class, though he is an notoriously tough marker when it comes to trees for some reason.
