Well, I guess I should have seen this coming. Barry Penner isn’t exactly one for half measures. Why just step down from cabinet with a promise to not run in the next election, when you can do all that, then get a new job at an impressive and prestigious (well, I assume) Vancouver firm a few years ahead of schedule? Best of both worlds, some would say. In fact, if you look closely at that press release, Private Citizen Penner is going to be in charge of their environmental and renewable energy practice in BC. So, once again Barry Penner proves that no matter how hard you try, you can’t keep Barry Penner away from his true love, The Environment. I now understand why El Gordo quit all that time ago. It wasn’t due to HST backlash or anything silly like that. It was due to shame at ruining the best Minister/Portfolio matchup since John Les was appointed Minister of Looking Kinda Sleazy.

Well, Barry Penner, the public still has you for the rest of the year, so don’t sit back yet! I’m sure you have at least one more great photo-op in you, right? Just something for us to remember you by?

Oh well, if the recent history of Chilliwack representatives holds, MLA Fintry Penner should be sworn in shortly.

Apologies to everyone for the dead air over the last couple of months. Some of us took the news of his eventual retirement a little harder than others and needed a little time to come to grips with the new… reality. Of course, the problem here wasn’t with Barry Penner, MLA for Chilliwack-Hope. He continued to be as awesome as ever. Take this from last month, for instance:

“These solar panels are a tangible example of how we can take steps to meet our energy needs with a reduced impact on the environment,” Chilliwack-Hope MLA Barry Penner said. “B.C. is blessed with an array of renewable energy options, including wind, hydro and solar energy.” – Chilliwack Times

See? You can take the MLA out of the Environment Ministry, but you can’t take the Environment Minister out of the MLA. Going on about renewable energy and solar power and all that… it’s enough to bring tears to your eye. He may not be in charge of any BC-wide portfolios anymore (after fixing The Environment, Aboriginal Relations, and all crime in BC), but Barry Penner is sure to remain in the public eye, even if it is just in matters pertaining to the eastern Fraser Valley. So, Barry Penner is AWESOME will continue to be your best place to come for information about the best MLA for Chilliwack-Hope ever. I can’t promise frequent updates, but I’ll do what I can.

And of course, you will have noticed that this site has returned to ‘BPiA Classic’. I never really took to the uptight so-called ‘professional’ theme that’s been around here over the last little while. This will always be BPiA to me.

Last week, Barry Penner and his wife Daris LaPointe welcomed a new member to the family: Fintry Katherine Penner. Of course, Barry Penner is completely on top of things, and took the opportunity to introduce the infant to the high-paced world of the Barry Penner photo op. It’s never too soon to smile for the camera!

And if anyone doubted Barry Penner’s continued commitment to The Environment, take a look at this:

Their newborn’s name, Fintry, is a nod to a provincial park in the Okanagan that Penner visited while he was environment minister.

Well, it could be worse, I guess. She could be named Wrinkly Face Penner.
