It looks like The Environment is a little  nippy today, so Barry Penner has layered up. The young fellow that’s following him around isn’t worried about the cold, but is wisely concerned with the amount of water that they may encounter. Barry Penner doesn’t worry about that, though. He has boots.

We here at Barry Penner is Awesome have been beating the Barry Penner Water drum for a while now. Water is many things to many people, but to Barry Penner water is everything.

“Water defines British Columbia, and over the next 25 years we expect B.C.’s population to grow by another 1.4 million people,” said Penner. “Our water will have to go a lot further without compromising nature’s needs. The Living Water Smart blog is an interactive way to encourage open dialogue on this important topic. Together, we can determine the steps we must take to protect our water both for today and the future.”

Water defines BC. We need to protect water… for the future. And here I’ve been drinking it like it falls from the sky.

It’s not just water that British Columbians need to look out for, it’s the creepy crawlies and whatnot that float around and go hither and thither in the water. Barry Penner explains:

“Zebra and quagga mussels don’t respect international, state or provincial borders and pose a major threat to the B.C. environment,” said Penner.

Like little shelled terrorists. But don’t worry, Barry Penner has a plan!

“By signing on to the Columbia Basin Rapid Response Plan, we will now be informed immediately if a population of these mussels is detected within the Columbia River basin, and we will gain access to a high level of scientific and operational expertise in dealing with aquatic invasive species.”

I, for one, will sleep soundly tonight knowing that Barry Penner’s specially chosen Mussel Task Force is on the job, vigilantly protecting BC, nay, The Environment itself, from the major threat of quagga mussels. Quagga mussels, people!

gladiators

Barry Penner’s Environment-themed spinoff of 90’s hit American Gladiators never really took off in the ratings. I guess people just don’t want to tune in for British Columbian Polite Conversationalists, no matter how how much water is in between the two contestants. Pity.

fishin

Barry Penner has quite the stance there considering how the size of the pond and how flimsy that fishing rod looks. I suppose that makes sense, though. Barry Penner wouldn’t go fishing if he didn’t intend to catch a BIG fish.

Hmm, his assistant there may need a bigger net.
